This document is a guide to where documents and records are required and provides clarity on IATF 16949® and ISO 9001 requirements and the term "documented information".
When preparing to implement an IATF 16949® quality management system (QMS), this document indicates where the term “documented information” occurs in each section of the IATF 16949:2016 and ISO 9001:2015 standards.
When it states “maintain documented information”, this is equivalent to having a procedure or being documented somewhere. Where it indicates “retain documented information”, there needs to be some type of record.
