Chris Cooney is a SimpleQuE consultant, with more than 24 years of combined experience in the areas of AS9100, AS9120, ISO 9001, and IATF 16949 quality management. He has a proven dedication to enhancing customer satisfaction, cutting operational costs, supporting strategic solutions and implementing effective process improvements. He is a lead auditor for IATF 16949, ISO 9001 and AS9100 and currently performs audits for a certification body.
Work Experience
ISO / Quality Management Systems
Through his own business, Chris has provided companies with process-based 2nd and 3rd party audits and consulting services for ISO 9001 and the aerospace and automotive quality management systems standards. He also shares his knowledge and expertise in conducting training for internal audits, standards requirements and corrective action, and has assisted a variety of companies in securing their own ISO/Quality Management Systems certifications.
Automotive and Aerospace
During his 24 years at American Ring, Chris developed increasing managerial expertise in the manufacturing and distribution environments. He became Director of Quality Assurance and was responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949, AS 9100, and AS9120 at four locations throughout the U.S. Chris oversaw a quality team of 6 employees and coordinated annual internal audits, also supervising completion of corrective actions. To drive continuous improvement, production data from nonconformances was analyzed which resulted in 99.7% on-time delivery and 99.65% production accuracy to customers. By enhancing communication between management and operational personnel, training and clear understanding of company goals, continuous improvement of departmental measured objectives was exceeded. Chris also developed procedures and training which enabled departments to consistently exceed management and performance goals. While serving on the Board of Directors of American Ring, he provided direction of the quality department which enabled the company to fulfill short and long-term customer requirements. This resulted in a 30% decrease of labor hours and 50% reduction in freight charges due to improved internal processes over 3 years.
Chris has direct knowledge and experience with Aerospace industry quality perspectives, including: CAA requirements, principles of military aerospace requirements, First Article Inspection (9102), airworthiness and safety requirements, design, development, verification and validation, Aerospace material traceability requirements, aerospace subcontractor approval and control requirements, variation management of key characteristics (9103), flow down of quality requirements, Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention programs requirements, use of customer supplied products, calibration controls and positive recall system, acceptance authority media and nonconforming material, system requirements and operation.
Associations
Chris has been a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and has chaired a committee responsible for maintaining, revising and reaffirming the stand for fasteners. He also provided support for developing criteria within the ASME B18 Standards committee.
