Materion – Advanced Material Solutions for Aerospace

Congratulations to Materion and their corporate headquarters in Mayfield Heights, OH for achieving AS9100D (Aerospace) certification along with 6 US sites located in OH, IL, MI and PA. Founded in 1931, the company serves customers in more than 50 countries with locations throughout North America, Europe and Asia, and employs approximately 2,500 people worldwide.

The company develops and manufactures highly engineered advanced materials across a wide range of markets, including electronics, defense and science, automotive electronics, telecommunications infrastructure, medical and energy, industrial and aerospace.

Materion understands that few environments are harsher than those encountered in aerospace applications. Extremes in temperature, friction and vibration can threaten the integrity of mission-critical components, so they offer a host of high performance materials and specialty alloys designed to address those aerospace challenges.

Materion also recognizes the importance of maintaining a strong aerospace quality management system. In 2014 they began outsourcing their AS9100 internal audits to simpleQuE and two years later began multi-site transition to ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100:2016 with the support of several simpleQuE consultants.  In 2018 they achieved certification through Bureau Veritas – we are proud of their success and presented each site with a congratulatory plaque.

SimpleQuE Associate Spotlight – Megan Genet

We are thrilled to highlight one of our newest team members, Megan Genet, a Project Manager here at simpleQuE. Read on to get to know more about Megan’s background, interests, and favorite things about working at simpleQuE.

What is your position and what do you do for simpleQuE?
My career at SimpleQuE is Project Manager. My main focus is to monitor and manage our many consulting projects.

How long have you worked for simpleQuE?
I have been working at simpleQuE for five months.

What do you like most about working for simpleQuE?
The team! We are all very supportive of each other and we often come together to share ideas. Each one of us brings something special to the company.

What is your favorite QMS standard and why?
I’ve studied the ISO/TS and now IATF over the past six years. I really respect the standard and I know the hard work and determination a client must put into having a automotive certificate.

What attracted you to simpleQuE?
The thought of helping companies start their quality systems and providing them the confidence to get it done made me feel like I could make a difference.

What is your favorite part of the day?
I love the morning. All is still quiet and I love to sip my coffee and prepare for my day.

What was your first job?
At 16 I started at a local outdoor lighting manufacturer. They really took me under their wing and through the 13 years I was there I was able to experience every aspect of a manufacturing business. I held many different roles which I believe gave me a good stepping stone into a career in quality.

What is your hometown?
I was born and raised in Norton, Ohio and now I raise my family in the same town.

Lauren Manufacturing Achieves Quality and Environmental Management System Certifications

Congratulations!  Lauren Manufacturing (New Philadelphia, Ohio), a Lauren International company, received ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 (environmental) certifications from Eagle Certification Group.  Since 1965 the company has grown from a seal and gasket manufacturer to a sophisticated business supply partner for leading OEMs, engineers and builders and to industries around the globe including automotive, agriculture, window and door, HVAC, renewable energy, lighting and more.  With facilities in Ohio and Michigan, total quality management is the foundation of their entire organization. To ensure quality materials are used for every customer application, they mix and test their own materials on site. They also design and build process equipment in-house to ensure products are manufactured to exact specifications.  Lauren’s adherence to lean manufacturing principles prevents defects and maximizes value for their customers from product design to delivery.

In addition, the company is committed to environmental management requirements and complies with regulations by local, state and federal agencies.  With EMS risks and opportunities identified, Lauren’s leadership planned objectives to address them. Each objective has a responsible person or team assigned with action item plans for achieving the EMS intended results.  These objectives and targets were communicated across the organization and are monitored and evaluated for status/progress updates to ensure continual improvement of the EMS and enhance environmental performance.

To assist with the transition to the new ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 standards, simpleQuE consultants began working with Lauren in early 2017, providing a gap analysis and support in preparation for their external audit in November 2017.  Originally, the company which is currently ISO/TS 16949 (automotive) certified, had thought they would also transition to the new IATF 16949 standard.  However, due to the complexities and numerous requirements of the new standard, it was determined that Lauren Manufacturing could meet their automotive customer’s requirements with MAQMSR and CQI-19 audits and compliance.  SimpleQuE consultants continue to work with Lauren to meet those objectives and to ensure that their reputation is built upon trust, service, innovation and quality.
