The Evolution of IATF 16949®
Follow The Evolution of IATF 16949®.
The automotive quality management standard has come a long way since its inception in 1994. Take a look at simpleQuE’s infographic to learn about the development of the standard, and its progression from QS-9000, to ISO/TS 16949, to IATF 16949®.
The International Automotive Task Force (IATF®) created ISO/TS 16949 to harmonize the different assessment and certification systems worldwide in the automotive supply chain. Other revisions were created as necessary for either automotive sector enhancements or ISO 9001 revisions. ISO/TS 16949 introduced a common set of techniques and methods for common product and process development for automotive manufacturing worldwide.
The most recent version, IATF 16949:2016 emphasizes the development of a process-oriented QMS (quality management system) that provides for continual improvement, defect prevention, and reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain. The goal is to meet customer requirements efficiently and effectively. Read our article for more information – What You Should Know When Preparing for IATF 16949® Certification.
